A domestic dispute turned violent at Cansaulim on Saturday after a man allegedly entered a rented house with a knife, threatened to end his own life, and later attacked a couple before fleeing the scene. The husband suffered a neck injury and was admitted to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim. His wife was also injured while trying to save him.

The incident took place around 11 am at Madalem, Cansaulim. According to Verna police, the accused Akash Kumar, a relative of the victim family, allegedly reached the rented home of Jitendra Kumar Jaiswal (35), originally from Bihar and staying at Madalem, carrying a knife. He allegedly threatened to cut his own veins.

Police said Jitendra tried to calm him down and asked him to leave. However, the accused allegedly became angry and attacked him, causing a bleeding injury on the left side of his neck.

Hearing the noise, Jitendra’s wife, Priyanka Jaiswal (30), rushed to help. In the struggle, she suffered a cut injury on her right hand. The couple then tried to overpower the accused, but he allegedly pushed Priyanka to the ground, causing injuries to the left side of her face, before escaping.

Jitendra is undergoing treatment at GMC, Bambolim.

Based on Priyanka’s complaint, Verna police registered a case under Sections 109 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Although the accused fled the spot, police acted quickly and traced him within about 30 minutes using his photograph shared by the family. He was later arrested and produced before the JMFC court, which granted eight days of police custody.

Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar of Verna Police Station under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
