The Principal District Sessions Judge, Desmond D'Costa convicted one Nazir Mehboob Pattenawar, a resident of Sirvoi-Kepem, holding him guilty of murdering one Shanul Sharif (38), a resident of Sirvoi-Kepem and a native of Belgaum
The point of sentence will be pronounced on January 23.
The murder case dates back to May 5, 2015 when the convict murdered the deceased with a 'danda'. The deceased was killed on the spot, while some arguments over money was attributed to be the motive behind the murder.
The accused had struck the deceased with a 'danda' on his head and later buried the body on the same night. The matter had come to light when the leg of the deceased was spotted protruding out of the ground. The body was later exhumed from the spot and a case of murder and destruction of evidence was registered based on the complaint lodged to this effect by the relative of the deceased, one Mushtaq.
The accused was traced based on the information provided by the witnesses who were reportedly present during the alteraction between the duo which had occurred prior to the murder of the deceased.
The case was chargesheeted on 18 July, 2015.
The prosecution led by Public Prosecutor Sarojini Sardinha examined a total of 14 witnesses which led to the conviction, where Praveen Gawas was the Investigating officer.
