Forest department’s exercise to crack down on frog poaching drew first blood after the mobile squad constituted by the Margao Range Forest Officer detained a person at Chandrawado-Fatorda with three live bull frogs.
Forest department officials informed that the mobile squad detained Navedade Soares, a resident of Chandrawado-Fatorda, after he was allegedly found in possession of three live bull frogs.
The officials informed that an offence has been registered against Navedade under the Wildlife Protection Act.
The South Goa Deputy Conservator of Forests has constituted a couple of squads to keep frog poachers at bay during the monsoons.
In fact, the department has issued notices to hundreds of restaurants and hotels in the city, with a plea not to sell frog meat in their establishments.
