Condemning the Manipur incident, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said the rape and assault was an “insult” to the country and expected severest action against the perpetrators of the dastardly crime.
“The shocking act of gang rape and assault on two women in Manipur is an insult to the law-abiding civil society of the country,” Sawant said reading a prepared statement on the floor of the House.
“As a responsible citizen of this country and as the Chief Minister of Goa, my heart is full of pain and anger. I convey the sentiment of solidarity with the victim of the unfortunate incident,” he added.
He further said that as expressed by PM Narendra Modi, the Centre will take the strongest possible action against the culprits.
He said there was no need to create drama on the issue as everyone was aware of the incident, and the PM will take action.
Earlier, AAP MLAs -- Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva -- demanded a discussion on the Manipur issue before the beginning of the Question Hour.
Both the MLAs also rushed to the well of the House after the Speaker disallowed their demand.
The two MLAs also wore black attire as a mark of protest against the incident.
