The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) along with health officials jointly inspected the fish market on Monday.
Mapusa Health Officer Dr Cheryl D’Souza, Sanitation Inspector Uday Tamhankar, Mapusa councillor Sudhir Kandolkar, Sunil Naik and Praveen Asolkar were present during the inspection, following a complaint from Asolkar.
"We've jointly inspected the market and have suggested that the MMC cleans the nullah so that it does not become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. We have also asked them to empty the containers and other stuff," said Dr D’Souza.
"During the inspection, we realised that fish boxes store water and it will cause problems not just to sellers but also to customers as well. I had submitted the letter to the MMC but they did not send even a junior engineer for the inspection," said Asolkar.
