Mapusa fish vendor caught cheating shamed on social media by customer

MAPUSA

In yet another shaming incident in Mapusa, a fish vendor was caught cheating a customer while dispensing with her stock in the sprawling Mapusa fish market.

She later apologized for her fault, which was caught on camera.

A video that went viral showed the customer arguing with the errant fish vendor for cheating by offering less quantity of prawns then what she had bargained for.

The customer had struck a deal for a “vanto” (portion) of prawns for Rs 400 with the vendor. But apparently while placing the prawns in a plastic carry bag, the fish vendor managed to hoodwink the customer and gave her much lesser quantity.

Upset at having been deceived, the customer chose to return the prawns and demanded her money back.

Surprisingly, the vendor agreed to take the consignment back and apologized to the customer.

“Sorry. Please do not take my photo,” the fish vendor was heard constantly appealing to the person who was shooting the video.

Shashikala Govekar, President of Mapusa Fish Vendors Association, told The Goan that the unscrupulous fish vendor was caught cheating several times and was warned from repeating the same.

“With such a disgraceful act she has brought disrepute to the entire fishing community of Mapusa. Her action is totally unacceptable and unpardonable,” Govekar said.

She further said the vendor was earlier involved in similar instances and strict warning was issued to her.

Govekar disclosed that the fish vendor’s name was Pushpa and she was a resident of Morod, Mapusa.

Govekar further disclosed that she received several calls since morning about the video circulating on the social media. “I have even received a call from England,” she added.

The President of the Mapusa Fish Vendors Association said she was planning to file a complaint in the matter.
