Angry women vendors from the Mapusa fish market on Monday met the Mapusa Municipal Council chief officer and demanded strict action against some municipal workers, after accusing them of harassing the fish vendors in the market.
Under the leadership of Women Fish Vendor Association President Shashikala Govekar, dozens of fish vendors met MMC Chief Officer Clen Madeira and narrated their problems.
“We brought to the notice of the MMC CO that municipal workers are not allowing us to conduct business by sitting on the ground, even though there is no complain from customers. We have told him to replace these workers for the smooth functioning of the Mapusa market,” Goverkar told media person after their meeting with the chief officer.
Later speaking to reporters, Madeira said there had been complaints from women fish vendors against some municipal workers.
“I have promised to look into matter, but suggested that they should do their business within the space allotted to them in the fish market,” said Madeira.
