Former transport minister Sudin Dhavalikar took a dig at the government for not implementing the new amendment in transport law which has a provision to prosecute parents who allow their minor children to drive their vehicles.
“Government has failed to implement the new stringent law in the State which has been enacted by the Centre and which has a provision to punish parents who allow their minor kids to drive”, Dhavalikar said at a press conference reacting to the deaths of three teenagers on Sunday in a self-accident at Verna.
Dhavalikar said Transport Minister Mauvin Godhino has to be held accountable and has to submit his resignation for his failure to implement the new law. “Due to non-implementation of traffic rules the accidents are increasing in the State”, he alleged.
Dhavalikar also asked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take note of the fatal mishap and implement the new motor vehicle law.
It may be recalled that the government has not implemented the new law which was passed by the central government as the penalties in the law were much higher then the earlier ones.
Dhavalikar alleged that despite the knowledge of minors have races in some areas like Verna industrial estate and the Goa Engineering College campus, the police and transport officials were not acting.
Meanwhile speaking on Mhadei issue Dhavalikar alleged that chief minister’s recent visit to Delhi where he called on Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is just an eyewash before the zilla panchayat elections.
Dhavalikar said, instead of meeting Shekhawat, the Chief Minister should have met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and plead his intervention in the Mhadei issue.
“The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party will write a letter to the Prime Minister bringing all the issues related to the Mhadei case to his notice. The letter will be delivered to PMO by March 15”, said Dhavalikar.
