Mapusa Police file chargesheet in murder case

Mapusa Police on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against eight suspects accused in the Mahamad Kalim Shaik murder case at Karaswada-Mapusa.

The chargesheet against six accused has been filed in the JMFC court, while a chargesheet against two accused has been filed in the Children's Court as they are minor.

It may be recalled that Mahamad Umad Ali and his brother Aukat Umad Ali Sidiki were involved in a fight over ownership of scrapyard.

There were heated arguments between the duo over the issue. Aukat Ali's brother-in-law Mahamad Kalim Shaik was killed on the night of February 10, while the duo and their relatives were involved in a fight.

Later, Aukat Ali Sidiki filed an FRI and Mapusa Police filed a charge sheet against Mahaamad Umad Ali (54), his wife Hanudu Nisa (50), their minor sons, Mahamad Khalid Siddiki (28), Mahamad Shahid Siddiki (25), Sumit Phadte (25) and Ajay Shinde (28).

The chargesheet runs into 290 pages and there are 75 witnesses in the case. All the accused are in judicial custody.

BELAGAVIAn outbreak of bird flu in neighbouring Bidar district has left authorities in Belagavi on high alert and plans are afoot to test the birds at all poultries in Belagavi district, especially since many poultries are also engaged in supplying birds to Goa. About 35,000 birds have died from bird flu in Bidar district, which is about 300 kms from Belagavi district, in the past few days.
