Mapusa Police arrested five ‘holy man’ (sadhus) for moving suspiciously from house to house and seeking alms.

Two of the accused were nabbed near the government school in Khorlim and three others at Housing Board, Mapusa.  Police informed that the sadhus were found moving around suspiciously and entering homes to seek alms.

On Wednesday, as three of the accused were moving around from door to door in Housing Board, some locals raised an alarm, caught them and began to question their antecedents.

Later, the police were alerted and the three accused were handed over to the police.

Similarly, another two sadhus moving door to door were also nabbed near the government school in Khorlim.

All five have been arrested under Section 41 of the CrPC.

“There was suspicion among people that they may be robbers moving in the garb of sadhus (holy men) and probably involved in cases of house breaking,” said Tushar Lotlikar, Mapusa PI. All the five alleged accused will be produced before the magistrate on Thursday. Mapusa Police is investigating further.
