The commercial capital will finally have a master plan in place with the government appointing a Mumbai-based agency to prepare the plan.

Phase-I of the work of the agency includes collecting documents and plans before the agency interacts with the city’s architects, engineers and professionals.

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Monday sought to reassure the people that the master plan will be finalized by the government only after taking the people into confidence. “I am happy that the government has appointed an agency to prepare master plan for Margao along with Ponda and Valpoi. The agency which has an experience in preparing master plans have had called on him recently”, he said.

He added: “The agency is presently collecting documents and plans of the city. These plans will be used to prepare the master plan for the city. The agency has been told to take suggestions and feedback from the city-based professionals so that a best plan is put in place for the commercial capital”.

The Margao MLA further said that the Ana Fonte Garden will receive a fresh lease of life in the coming months with the government floating tenders for its beautification. “The Ana Fonte garden plays host to the musical fountain, which has not been functioning for some time. The government has now floated tenders for the beautification of the Ana Fonte garden in order to spruce up the entire area and give it a facelift”, he said.

Saying that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will lay the foundation stone for the six-lane Rawanfond bridge later this month, Kamat said work on the prestigious project will start immediately with the government shortlisting and issuing the work order to the successful bidder.

He further said the Aquem ring road, from the Aquem Power House to the Fire station, will be illuminated by the government. Saying that the ring road will be closed for traffic to stop garbage dumping on the road side, Kamat has warned that vehicles entering the ring road to dispose of waste despite the ban will be impounded and penalized.

The Margao MLA further said the Aquem-Lohia Maidan-Aquem road along with the internal lanes will soon be taken up for hot mixing at a cost of Rs seven crore.

Saying that soil testing for the multilevel parking project behind the Margao Municipal building has been undertaken before the construction of the project, Kamat said GSUDA will soon float the tender for parking lot which will have a restaurant facility atop the building.
