South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Monday charged the BJP for trying to making political capital out of India getting the presidency of the G-20 nations, saying the presidency is being rotated amongst the member nations every year.
“Indonesia was the president of the G-20 nations last year. This year, the presidency has come to India. Somehow, the BJP is trying to make a big show of the country with an eye on the 2024 Lok sabha polls”, the Congress MP said.
When his attention was drawn to the Goa Forward party joining Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Sardinha said all the opposition parties who are opposed to the BJP have expressed their solidarity with the yatra to keep the BJP at bay.
Referring to the IIT agitation at Sanguem, the South Goa MP reiterated his opposition to the IIT when there’s no provision for the reservation of seats for the Goan students. “Why should Goa give away lakhs of square meters of land for the IIT when Goan students will not get any reservations at the institute,” he questioned.
Saying the farmers in Goa are suffering because of the support price for paddy fixed by the centre, Sardinha demanded to know what stops the government from giving additional support price over and above the one fixed by the Centre.
Expressing his satisfaction over the government’s satisfaction on resumption of sand extraction with traditional methods, Sardinha, however, said the ground reality has not changed after the announcement.
He demanded that the government regularize the MTS staff employed at the cardiac facility at the Goa Medical College and hospital.
