As part of his strategy to find a solution to the burning traffic problem in Margao, newly-posted MMC Chief Officer Sidhivinayak Naik on Friday asked heads of educational institutions to explore the possibility of implementing staggered timings for schools.
Representatives and heads of around 18 educational institutions, including high schools, higher secondary schools and colleges, attended an interaction with the MMC Chief Officer to find a solution to the traffic and garbage problems.
The school heads drew the attention of the CO to the delay in erecting rumblers and removal of obstructions
hampering the smooth flow of traffic.
The CO told The Goan after the meeting that he has asked the school heads to go in for staggered timings to tide over the traffic snarls. “The heads of schools and the representatives were open to the idea. The idea will be discussed further by the schools heads, PTAs and traffic cell before implementation,” Naik said.
He pointed out that the meeting also took into account the collection of dry waste by private agencies from some of the city schools.
Another round of meeting will now be arranged some time next month wherein three MLAs -- TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, Margao MLA
Digambar Kamat and Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco -- will be invited along with officials of the Collectorate and the traffic police.
