MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council has decided to give effect to the vending zones identified in the commercial capital and ensure that no vendor is allowed to do business outside these zones.
The issue was discussed at the Standing Committee of the Margao Municipal Council presided by Chairperson Pooja Naik on Wednesday.
The decision assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the anti-encroachment drive initiated by the new Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes.
The Standing Committee pointed out that since the civic body had identified certain areas to be notified as vending zones, the administration should give effect to these zones by notifying the same.
After the meeting, MMC Chairperson Pooja told the media that the vending zones, once notified, will ensure that only vending within these zones will be allowed in the city.
“Since the vending zones were already identified by the council, the Chief Officer has been requested to give effect to these,” she added.
The MMC Chairperson further said that the standing panel has further decided to appoint an IT expert on contract basis to man the IT works in the civic body.
“We have often experienced that public is put to hardships because there’s no IT personnel in the civic body to attend to works when the server is down,” she said, adding that the meeting has also decided to replace the wirings and electrical fittings in the IT cell.
The standing panel has further decided to tone up the taxation section to meet the requirements and to mop up additional revenue for the civic body.
