The bridge, however, is craving for attention with potholes still dotting the stretch and posing danger to motorists.
Margao MLA Digmabar Kamat formally inaugurated the LED illumination carried out by the PWD at an estimated cost of Rs 13 lakh. The project includes replacement of the old and worn out poles and fixtures and installing LED fixtures all along the stretch from Margao to Sirvodem.
When the media asked the Margao MLA to shed light on the poor maintenance of the bridge as evident by the potholed stretch, Kamat sought to evade the question, saying the question of maintenance and repairs falls within the domain of another PWD division. He said that the PWD has prepared estimate to hot mix the bridge surface and exuded confidence that work would commence soon.
“The PWD was given the task to replace the old and damaged poles on the flyover. I thank the officials as well as the contractor for executing the work in record time and well before the Dussehra festival,” Kamat said, adding that the LED illumination will help the motorists in a big way. The Margao flyover has been in the news recently after motorists complained of pot holes and craters raising its ugly head on the bridge, endangering the lives of motorists.
