Margao municipal administrator Srinet Kothwale on Monday said that a joint inspection of the 10TPD gasification plant will be conducted with the operator and stakeholders to ascertain its functioning and suggest rectification, if any.
The proposed joint inspection, Kothwale said, will take place within a month’s time and will be conducted by the operator and municipal officials.
The administrator’s assurance to hold the joint inspection of the gasification plant came moments after the Margao Congress Block Committee submitted a memorandum on the state of the gasification plant.
The memorandum submitted by Congress spokesman Savio Coutinho demanded an immediate joint inspection of the plant within seven days by a committee comprising the Margao Municipal Council, Goa State Pollution Control Board, and Goa State Waste Management Corporation to assess its actual performance. The Congress spokesman had further demanded that all pending payments to the contractor be kept on hold until a comprehensive performance audit report is submitted.
They further demanded that the agency be directed to submit daily operation logs, waste intake records, electricity consumption bills, and the commissioning certificate from the date of commissioning; that a copy of the agreement and performance bank guarantee with the agency be made available; and that a detailed performance report be submitted to all stakeholders on or before August 31.
The Margao Congress Block Committee has warned that failure to act within the stipulated time will compel it to approach the Lokayukta, State Vigilance Department, and the High Court of Bombay at Goa for appropriate directions and action against the responsible officials.
