Margao MLA calls for alternate site for green waste disposal

Margao

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has said the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) needs to scout for an alternative site for the safe disposal of green waste in the city.

He said the two shredding machines procured by Margao for the disposal of green waste, including coconut waste, are doing excellent work, disposing of tonnes of waste generated in the commercial capital.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the inauguration of the MMC’s new Creta car on Monday morning, Kamat reminded the media that the two shredding machines have been specifically manufactured by a Belagavi-based company to meet the growing requirements of the city.

“The two shredding machines were vetted by the Goa Energy Development Agency. And they have been performing to their capacity since their installation. However, since they are new, the machines have developed some technical snags, which are being rectified,” he said.

In response to a question, Kamat said the MMC will have to scout for suitable land for the safe disposal of green waste, as the green waste dump was engulfed in a major fire at Sonsodo last week.

On the painting of the Municipal building, the Margao MLA said that the Council has already decided to paint a particular colour on the heritage building, adding that the Civic body is implementing the decision to paint the building brick red.
