Margao Civic Chief Damu Shirodkar on Monday chose Hyundai Creta as his official vehicle.
BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat visited the Municipality to inaugurate the new SUV. Kamat highlighted that the Civic body purchased the vehicle through the GeM portal.
After the inauguration, Kamat informed the media that the vehicle cost the Civic body only Rs 10.5 lakh, thanks to the GeM portal. He also pointed out that, although the government had approved Rs 30 lakh for the new vehicle, the Municipality spent just one-third of the approved amount.
Kamat explained that the decision to replace the old vehicle was due to frequent breakdowns, which made it unreliable.
The previous vehicle, a Duster, was purchased during the tenure of former Chairperson Dr Babita Prabhudesai.
