Margao Municipal Council’s recruitment process has kicked up another row of sorts, with job seekers being told to obtain the application forms from a photocopying centre, pegged at a whopping Rs 80 per form.
Since the job seekers are mandated to submit the application forms in a government-prescribed format, they are left with no option but to procure the forms from the Xerox centre, raising questions as to why the civic body did not make the forms available at a nominal price.
This became evident on Friday when a citizen, who came to collect a form for his kin, was directed by the municipal staff to obtain the application form from the Xerox centre. “When I asked for the application form, I was told that the forms were available at a Xerox centre. When I went to the Xerox centre, they charged Rs 80 for a single-page form. The centre offered to fill up the form on the condition that I pay an additional Rs 30 for the service,” the citizen told The Goan.
He added: “Usually, it will not cost even Rs 5 for a Xerox copy of the application form. In these circumstances, I wonder why the MMC did not make the forms available at the civic body at a nominal rate of Rs 10.”
Meanwhile, the Margao Municipal Council is believed to have received over 1,000 application forms for the 11 posts of LDCs, besides the lone post of supervisor and mason. The last date to submit the application forms is November 11.
