After the 'Naman' at Lohia Maidan and seeking blessings of Lord Shree Damodar at Pimpalkatta, the Margao Shigmotsav Samiti held its Shigmo celebrations in the city on Thursday.
The romtamel troupes commenced their march from Lohia Maidan onwards to Pimpalkatta and later wound their way from Ropa Aal (cloth lane) back to Lohia Maidan.
Speaking to mediapersons later, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said the Samiti has been celebrating Shigmo in Margao for the last 29 years. Claiming that the government has indulged in politics even with Shigmo festival, Kamat charged the government with formulating committees to conduct Shigmo where the dispensations at the councils were not favourable to the government in power.
Kamat said the Samiti curtailed Shigmo festivities in Margao in view of the ongoing examinations, and, as such, only romtamel parade was held bereft of floats.
A 'Lavni' programme was held later in the evening near Shree Dev Zageshwar Devasthan, Aquem as a part of the Shigmo cultural festivities.
