The Margao traffic cell headed by DySP Dharmesh Angle has come out with a slew of measures to ease traffic congestion in and around the city-educational institutions.
After observing the traffic pattern of flow in the city during the morning and afternoon sessions since the schools reopened on June 6, DySP Agnel has come out with short term measures, including the closure of certain road stretches near the Margao police station area.
The road heading towards Loyola school has now been closed for traffic. A barricade is being erected near the Margao police station canteen to stop vehicles going towards the school road.
Similarly, the road coming towards the Police station via Gomant Vidya Niketan has been made one-way for vehicles to move from the police station towards GVN. Parents coming to drop their wards in their private vehicles are being advised to park their vehicles on the old bus stand.
While the traffic police had told the owners of fast-food kiosks to tow their gaddas to their place of residence as per the Margao Municipal license conditions, the owners now park their movable carts on the bus stand, but along the police station roadside.
“We are experimenting with a host of measures to streamline traffic flow in the city post the reopening of the city schools. The measures implemented in the last two days are being streamlined. Our traffic personnel are personally monitoring the implementation of the measures by advising the parents to avoid certain roads,” he said.
DySP Angle further pointed out that the traffic personnel will also concentrate on the Comba area, more so around the Comba railway crossing, which has witnessed traffic snarls over the frequent closure of the crossing.
