Joint celebrations of Shiv Jayanti by Sanghatit Kankonkars, Shivsmarak Committee and Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Chawdi received huge support as people participated in the Dindi-Padyatra and related celebrations at the Shivsmarak at Chaudi on Monday.
The Dindi procession with Vithal Rukmai Varkari Mandal Palolem, Vithal Rukmai Devkipurush (Rajbag) and Dhol-Pathak also included women in participation which began at Maruti-mandir (Gumti) near the Canacona Post Office.
Canacona MLA and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar flagged off the padyatra at Maruti mandir in the presence of CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaonkar and others, who also participated in the Dindi Padyatra.
The procession passed through Chaudi town and culminated at Shiv-Smarak (Shivaji Statue) at the KTC Bus Stand.
In the morning, special rituals were conducted at the memorial of Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj near the KTC Bus Stand.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhatji Sarvesh Hegde congratulated the organisers for celebrating the birth anniversary of the national hero and highlighted the importance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Shiv Jayanti celebrations were also held elsewhere in the taluka.
Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar garlanded the statue of Chatrapathi Maharaj at the Dnyan Prabodhini Mandal's Shree Mallikarjun & Shri Chetan Manju Desai College at Delem-Canacona in the presence of DPM Chairman Chetan Dessai.
The newly installed statue of Shivaji Maharaj at the Centro Promoter de Instrucao (CPI) complex (at Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya, Char-Rasta) was also garlanded by CPI Chairman Samba Naik Dessai.
Huge cut-outs, banners and flags were placed at various places, including the traffic island, on the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road at Char-Rasta.
