Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho affirmed his control of Sancoale panchayat in neighbouring Cortalim constituency when panchas backed by him not only got Ramakant Borkar recently elected as sarpanch but also ousted deputy sarpanch, Kavita Kamal, in a no-confidence motion by 7-0 votes on Friday.
At a special meeting to decide the no-confidence motion seven panch members, Ramakant Borkar, Dr Sunita Borkar, Girish Pillai, Arish Kadar, Govind Lamani, Nandini Dessai and Succorin Vales voted in favour of the motion.
Four other panch members, Narayan Naik, Tulsidas Naik, Satish Padvalkar, and Kavita Kamal remained absent. The meeting was supervised by Mormugao BDP official Nicholas Quadros.
The no-confidence motion had been moved by 7 of the 11 members in Sancoale Panchayat on September 11, soon after Borkar was elected unopposed as sarpanch.
Incidentally, Deputy Sarpanch Kavita Kamal had tendered her resignation to the Mormugao BDO.
