Underground cabling in Cortalim & Quelossim to start in a month: MLA

VASCO

Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Friday stated that the underground cabling of the 11 KV High Tension (HT) Line in Cortalim and Quelossim would start within a month.

In a press note, Saldanha said a meeting was convened in her office at Upasnagar-Sancoale with engineers of the electricity department regarding power-related problems faced by residents of Cortalim, Quelossim and Sancoale.

The meeting was attended by Paulito Viegas (Executive Engineer incharge for Division XI, Vasco and Division XIV-Verna), Joao Lucas (Assistant Engineer, Division “ XI), Mario Mascarenhas (Assistant Engineer, Division XI) and Suraj Palyekar (Junior Engineer, Division XI).

“Cortalim and Quelossim villages have been facing power fluctuations due to 10,000 MVA transformer failures at the sub-station in Verna, from where power is supplied to both Cortalim and Quelossim villages.”

“Due to the transformer failure, power was sourced from the sub-station at Sancoale for these villages. However, due to the overload, frequent power fluctuations were experienced in Cortalim, Quelossim and Sancoale,” said Saldanha.

“Engineers present at the meeting said the failed transformer had been temporarily replaced with an 8,000 MVA transformer, from where the power is now restored to Cortalim and Quelossim and will later be replaced with a permanent 10,000 MVA transformer.”

“The 11 KV High Tension (HT) Line underground cabling project in Cortalim and Quelossim will start within a month as all formalities and procedures have been completed and the work order has also been issued. The Rs 9 crore project was delayed due to the pandemic and the ongoing monsoon.”

The Cortalim MLA also informed that the underground cabling from the sub-station at Birla, Sancoale to the Cortalim Cross Junction has also been tendered at a cost of around 7.5 crore and added that the work order would be issued shortly.

"Similarly, estimates for underground cabling for other areas in Sancoale, Cansaulim and Velsao covering my entire constituency have been prepared and sent to the government for approval.”

“Also, three transformers of 100 KVA each have been sanctioned at Sidharth Colony (Zuarinagar), Housing Board Colony (Upasnagar) and Pazentar (Cortalim),” Saldanha added.
