MARGAO/PANAJI
Babu told the media he was confident the Congress leaders, who have joined the BJP, will realise their mistake today or tomorrow, but added that people of Goa will teach a befitting lesson to the BJP at the opportune time for forming the government without popular mandate.
Referring to the statements made by BJP leaders at the felicitation function of party national president Amit Shah in Panaji on Sunday, Babu pointed out that while the leaders spoke about the Congress delay in forming the government, they were silent on admitting that people of Goa have not given them the mandate to form the government.
He also questioned the rationale behind local BJP’s decision to felicitate Amit Shah, saying that the BJP has dislodged the Congress only in Uttarakand, while the Congress had led over the BJP in Punjab, Goa and Manipur. “The BJP leadership, including Shah, should introspect why the people of Goa, Manipur and Punjab did not give the party an absolute majority in the recently held Assembly elections in these states,” he added.
Meanwhile, hitting out at the induction Vishwajit into the BJP-led government’s cabinet, All India Congress Committee Secretary Girish Chodankar said the move is a clear-cut admission that the saffron party has conceded defeat in the State.
In a press release issued here, Chodankar said the recent results have indicated that BJP is getting eroded in the State and Congress has come back. This also proves total political bankruptcy of BJP, he asserted and added, “Parrikar who is projected as a smart politician, has resigned to this reality and
has begun poaching Congress leaders using various tactics. The by-election in Valpoi is yet to take place, but Parrikar has already started pleasing Vishwajit.”
“Parrikar is well aware of the fact that Vishwajit will be defeated during the by-election. If Parrikar was sure of Vishwajit retaining Valpoi seat, he would have waited for the by-election and not hurried into his induction,” he sated further.
Vishwajit Rane will be a minister only for five months and after his defeat he will have to vacate his position, Chodankar predicted . People of Valpoi have already decided to defeat the traitor who ditched their trust, he chided.
He said Parrikar’s desperation was visible even before the election when he approached then Congress leaders like Pandurang Madkaikar and Mauvin Godinho to constest on BJP tickets.
