Director of Mines and Geology Prasanna Acharya stated that measures are in place to resolve mining transport-related problems in Quepem and Curchorem.
A day after Mission Bypass members had met Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in Curchorem on Wednesday, a joint meeting was convened at the Quepem Deputy Collector's office on Thursday evening.
Acharya, South Goa District Collector Sachin Shinde and other government officials apprised the locals from Curchorem and Quepem on the initiatives by the government to regulate mining transport to ensure the safety and security of people in the area.
Acharya said the suspension of trucks that violate the speed limit and a 24-hour helpline service to lodge complaints against trucks violating rules were some of these measures.
He also informed the locals about the online application on the official website of Mines Department to find a detailed history of the truck by only entering the truck number.
“My department will strictly implement these measures and public safety won't be taken lightly. There will be online monitoring of mining transport,” he said.
Commenting on the demand for a bypass for mining traffic, Shinde said the first phase of bypass road from Uguem to Capxem would be re-tendered soon.
“For the second phase from Muscaurem to Uguem, the alignment has been completed but land acquisition is pending as NOC is yet to be given by the forest department and South Goa Collector, which will be done in a month's time,” he added.
