Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate on Friday said all measures would be taken to prevent flooding in the flood-prone area of Camra Bhat.
Around 30 houses in Camra Bhat area get flooded every year during heavy rainfall and people have to be shifted to a nearby facility.
"Monsoon is fast approaching and our de-silting work is in progress. Around 50 labourers are working in 4 teams in different areas according to schedule. After May 21, the teams will work in the flood-prone areas, including Camra Bhat," said Monserrate.
The CCP mayor said St Inez culvert work will be completed soon while the St Inez nullah is almost complete.
"The St Inez culvert work has been delayed as there is a water pipeline and PWD has to shift the water pipeline before completion of work. Because of this, construction work is getting delayed. PWD will be starting the work next week.”
It may be recalled that the Water Resources Department had earlier taken some measures to prevent flooding at the Camra Bhat area. The de-silting of the St Inez Nullah is expected to reduce the problem of flooding at Camra Bhat.
