Medicine shortage at Canacona CHC

Woman biten by dog referred to Hospicio

CANACONA

Insufficient medical supplies at the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) came to the fore, when a woman bitten by a dog could not get the entire anti-rabies doze at the CHC and was, instead, referred to the Hospicio at Margao on Saturday.

According to reports, Rekha Devidas of Palolem was bitten by a dog and was rushed to the CHC. A doctor on duty gave her one injection and then referred her to the Hospicio at Margao for further treatment.

The residents accompanying the woman was annoyed that Rekha was being referred to Hospicio for another injection and were further agitated as she was asked to remain seated for over 3 hours, before a hospital ambulance could take her to the Hospicio.

When some reporters went to cover the incident at the CHC, a doctor on duty informed that the woman had already been administered one injection and that, she was being referred to the Hospicio for another injection.

The doctor admitted that the second injection was only available at the Hospicio and said the woman would be referred to the Hospicio on Saturday night.

“The woman is in a stable condition and if we send the only available ambulance immediately for a non-serious patient, any emergency patient arriving at the CHC would be inconvenienced,” explained the doctor.
