The over decade old Chinchinin Panchayat ghar cum sports complex took the centre stage of the gram sabha of the Chinchinim panchayat on Sunday.
The issue figured at the gram sabha meeting on Sunday chaired by Sarpanch Valentino Barretto after members demanded to know the status of the Chinchinim panchayat ghar cum sports complex project.
The sarpanch explained the members that the project is stuck for want of funds, pointing out that panchayat has been pursuing the project with the government.
Saying that the construction licence for the project has been renewed by the panchayat a year ago, the sarpanch has feared that the licence may expire again if the project is not executed by the government on priority.
Velim MLA Cruz Silva, who attended the gram sabha, informed the members that he has been pursuing the project with the government. He said the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is in the process of revising the estimates for the project.
The sarpanch told the members that a delegation of the panchayat body would call on the Managing Director of GSIDC to pursue the project and to make a plea for the early execution of the long-delayed project.
The issue over the approval given to a commercial project at the market place also came up for discussion after some members sought to know whether the project has been approved taking into account the parking norms.
The sarpanch replied saying the project has been approved with technical clearance from the TCP, assuring the members that the panchayat is ready to revisit the project if any discrepancies are brought to the notice of the TCP.
The Sarpanch later told the media that the gram sabha has accorded the nod to levy garbage tax on the households.
