MAPUSA
Ifs and buts make no sense in politics but the decision taken at the spur of the moment mattered, said MGP leader, Sudin Dhavalikar, indicating that the MGP could chart out its own course if post-poll result throws up a fractured mandate in the State.
Dhavalikar, on Sunday, also said that no discussions have been held on whether to declare the TMC-MGP alliance’s CM face before the elections.
“I will first go to voters…In politics, we cannot give a definite answer to this question. Ifs and buts are not important in politics. In politics, the decision taken on that date is crucial,” Dhavalikar stuttered, while responding to a query whether MGP was ready to do adjustment after the election results were announced.
Former deputy CM and MGP leader was interacting with journalists while participating in the election campaign of the alliance candidate Tarak Arolkar in Mapusa.
Dhavalikar said that the issue of declaring the alliance’s CM face has to be discussed with both the parties and the IPAC.
“I don’t know if it will be announced before the elections. In fact, there is a question mark on whether it is important or not to declare the CM candidate before the election,” he said.
The absence of Dhavalikar at a function to release the joint TMC-MGP alliance manifesto sparked talks about a possible rift among the leadership of the two parties.
Dhavalikar was later forced to clarify that he was unable to attend the function as he was indisposed.
The Marcaim MLA admitted that Mapusa was traditionally an MGP constituency but they were forced to offer the seat to the TMC.
“The candidate who contested on our party symbol in 2017 decided to support the BJP. The Central Committee of the MGP discussed the matter and resolved to give the seat to TMC. Tarak Arolkar is the right candidate and everyone should stand behind him and get him elected,” he said.
Dhavalikar pointed out that the political careers of several leaders who betrayed the MGP ended abruptly and mentioned the names of former ministers Ramakant Khalap and Dayanand Narvekar.
TMC Mapusa candidate Tarak Arolkar also spoke on the occasion.
