OLD GOA
Even as a local Govind Shirodkar urged for passing of a resolution on Mhadei, Chimbel sarpanch Sandesh Shirodkar remained non-committal as he said the issue was not on the agenda of Thursday’s special gram sabha.
In fact, sarpanch Shirodkar informed that the panchayat would hold a special gram sabha for discussion on Mhadei, where the resolution could be adopted.
“Our fortnightly meeting is slated on January 30 where we will decide on holding of a special gram sabha on Mhadei,” sarpanch Shirodkar informed.
However, the local Shirodkar pointed out that all over Goa, panchayats would be passing resolutions on Mhadei as the government itself has urged for the same.
“Whether the Mhadei issue is on the agenda or not is irrelevant as it is important to strengthen the Mhadei case by opposing the Centre’s approval of Karnataka’s DPR,” Shirodkar pointed out while adding that diversion of Mhadei waters would have severe effects on Goa.
However, the panchayat authorities stuck to their decision of not allowing the resolution to be approved and that the same could be adopted at the special gram sabha.
