Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has called for a meeting of the banks to decide on
the scheme. The scheme was extended till March 31. Speaking to The Goan, Parsekar said, “OTS was one of the umbrella schemes of the State Government through which we had tried to give relief to the mining affected especially to truckers and those who had lost their jobs due to closure of mining activities. They were given compensation for two years and after that we had told banks to formulate OTS scheme which was extended till March 31.” Parsekar pointed out that following demand, the State Government had decided to
grant extension to the OTS scheme. “Now too they were demanding that it be further
extended and I was also sympathetic towards extending it to truckers and barge owners.
But after extending the scheme earlier, in the last six months we realised that no major payments were made. So the bankers too were of the opinion that they should not be dragged further into the OTS as their NPAs are increasing”, Parsekar said adding,
“I have decided to hold the meeting today (Wednesday) so that those who want to repay
their loans can do so within two days.”
