Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has strongly batted for All India Institute of Medical Services (AIIMS) not just to upgrade the medical treatment facilities in the State, but to create a new environment in healthcare.

He has also unveiled plans to set up Proton Therapy centre in the State, saying he is committed to put in place facilities for the next 25 years.

In fact, Rane said that he will again take up the matter of setting up AIIMS in Goa at his forthcoming meeting with Union Health Minister J P Nadda in New Delhi. “Every six months, I had written letters to the Centre to sanction AIIMS centre in Goa for the benefit of the people of Goa. An AIIMS centre will not only upgrade the medical and health facilities, but create a different environment in the State. We have to think of the future generations,” he said.

To a question, the health Minister said land for setting up of the AIIMS institute in Goa has been identified. “If there is no big space available to set up the centre, the building can go vertical. When we talk, we are committed to get the things done,” he said, adding ‘let the sanction for AIIMS come from the Centre and the issue of land and other matters will be discussed with the Chief Minister’.

Complimenting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision for the country on the health front, the Health Minister said the PM has issued direction to take blood testing and other amenities at the sub-health centre level.

Vishwajit mulls rehab centre, nursing college in Hospicio heritage building

MARGAO: With the old Hospicio hospital left idle without any activity post-commissioning of the South Goa district hospital, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has on Saturday mulled a rehabilitation centre and a nursing college in the heritage building.

He said funds to start a rehabilitation centre and a nursing college is not a problem, saying the Centre is ready to sanction funds for the project. He, however, said that a final decision will be taken in consultation with Margao MLA Digambar Kamat.

As far as the Margao Urban Health Centre is concerned, the Health Minister said that people should not be made to go to the South Goa district hospital, adding that the Margao Urban Health Centre needs to be upgraded with certain functions.
