The South Goa district administration has set a target of disposing 300 land rights claims per month made by forest-dwelling scheduled tribes and other traditional dwellers under the Forest Right Act.
The Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, Tribal Welfare Minister Govind Gaude, MLAs of tribal areas held a meeting with the officers of the collectorate, forest, and other departments and gave directions to expedite the hearings in the pending claims.
“It is decided the Forest Right Committee at the deputy collector level will hold a meeting on a weekly basis and monthly collector level meeting will be held to expedite the settlement of forest rights claim cases,” said Deputy Chief Minister Kavlekar.
Tribal Minister Govind Gaude said that by mid-November 343 pending claims will be disposed of and subsequently per month 300 claims will be cleared.
The MLA and ministers hoped that the pendency of the claims will be cleared within the next six months.
