A 16-year-old boy has been charged with causing a fatal road accident after allegedly driving a self-drive rental car under the influence of alcohol and crashing into a motorcycle on NH-66 near Goa Velha.
Agassaim police have also booked the owner of the vehicle for allegedly allowing the minor to drive.
Police information reveals that the accident occurred at around 10.51 pm on Thursday near a showroom in Goa Velha. The First Information Report (FIR) stated that the minor was driving a Maruti Baleno self-drive car from Bambolim towards Margao when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle while driving in a rash and negligent manner. The car hit a Splendor Plus motorcycle before crashing into a streetlight pole.
The motorcyclist, Janardhan Harmalkar, 49, a resident of Mahakhajan in Dhargal, sustained grievous injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Abdul Aziz Khan has been made a co-accused for allegedly permitting the 16-year-old to drive the rental vehicle despite the minor being ineligible to do so.
