A 15-year-old rider was killed while a pedestrian was seriously injured in a road mishap at Old Goa. The mother of the deceased has been booked on charges of allowing the minor to ride the two-wheeler.
According to reports, the incident took place near the Darga at Old Goa on Wednesday evening when the scooter owner, Savitri Kumar of Old Goa, had allowed her 15-year-old son to ride her scooter.
The boy rode the scooter in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Corlim towards Merces circle via the Kadamba bypass and when he reached near the Darga at Old Goa, he collided with a pedestrian Usman Shaikh (76) of Peribhat.
The boy and the pedestrian sustained serious injuries in the mishap. The boy died of injuries while undergoing medical treatment.
Old Goa police booked an offence against the mother under Sections 281,125(B), 106, BNS and Sections 4, 180 of MV Act.
The incident comes barely two days after coastal MLAs from North Goa had visited Director General of Police Alok Kumar seeking his intervention, after pointing out that many parents give their vehicles to their under-aged and unlicensed children to drive vehicles.
While urging parents to refrain from encouraging this, the MLAs said it had led to several accidents and even fatalities.
