Miscreants damaged fixtures, plunging Calvim bridge in darkness: CM

MAPUSA
Although maintenance and lack of illumination on two key bridges in Aldona has been a subject of debate among the locals for long, Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar informed that some miscreants constantly damaged electrical panels on the Calvim bridge, resulting in darkness on the bridge.
"The electrical feeder panels on the Calvim bridge are frequently damaged by some miscreants, resulting in no illumination on the bridge," Parrikar said.
The chief minister gave this information while replying to a starred question from Aldona MLA, Glenn Ticlo in the ongoing Assembly session.
Parrikar further informed that whenever the lights on the bridge do not function, the contractor was directed to repair the same.
He said the last electrical maintenance on the bridge was taken up in the quarter of April to June 2017.
To a related question, Parrikar informed that repairs/maintenance of Corjuem bridge were last completed on July 10, 2015, under the work of maintenance of bridges constructed by GSIDC for the period of five years.
On maintenance of Calvim bridge, he said as per GSIDC, the defect liability period of Calvim bridge was up to October 12, 2018.
"The GSIDC has sought to transfer the bridge assets to PWD, which has not been done yet," Parrikar said.
To yet another query, the local MLA was informed that the LED fixtures were supplied by M/s Keselec Schreder Private Limited and the fixture was of Schreder make.
As regards to warranty of the fixtures, it was informed that the contractor, M/s Venkata Rao Infra Projects Pvt Ltd has got a defect liability period of five years for the installation which expires on October 12, 2018.
It may be recalled that Calvim bridge connecting Aldona to the island of Calvim was constructed in 2013 in record time, while Corjuem's cable-stayed bridge connecting Aldona to Corjuem villages was constructed in 2004.
Coincidentally, both the bridges were inaugurated when the BJP government was in power in the State.
