Miscreants target ‘Seven Temples’ at Cuncolim, rob donation boxes

MARGAO

The Seven Temples at Veroda-Cuncolim once again became the target of miscreants on Wedneday night.

Three out of the Seven Temples were burgled with the miscreants tampering the donation boxes and lifting away the cash. While two donation boxes were found abandoned near the temple premises, the miscreants are believed to have lifted away a donation box from one of the temples.

The incident came to light in the wee hours of Thursday when a devotee Ganesh Talwadkar came to open the temple before the arrival of the Priest,  only to find the temple doors open and the donation boxes missing.

He later informed the vice-president of the temple committee Mahesh Gaonkar and the duo came to the temple premises to take stock of the situation. The duo later informed the matter to the Cuncolim police.

Mahesh Gaonkar demanded that the Cuncolim register a FIR and nab the culprits involved in the theft case. He said the miscreants have only targetted the donation boxes, adding that the temple was not desecrated or vandalised.

“Last time, the miscreants had desecrated the Seven Temples by causing extensive damage to the premises. This time, they have only lifted away the donation boxes,” Gaonkar said, while demanding the arrest of the culprits.
