The 20-year-old American student who was reported missing was located and found to be safe on Friday midnight, even as the US consulate authorities have taken the responsibility to fly her back home in the US.
Police said the student, Elizabeth Mae Mann, who along with some friends had travelled to Panchgani, a hill station in Maharashtra, was traced at the Patradevi check-post in a car while
trying to return to her hostel in Anjuna.
Anjuna Police after recording her statement in the presence of an NGO, on Saturday morning, handed her
over to an officer of the US consulate.
Acting on a missing complaint filed by the manager of Bunkd hostel in Anjuna, where Mann was putting up during her stay in Goa, police had lodged a missing report late Friday evening.
Mann in her statement said she went to Panchgani on her own volition and wasn’t influenced by anyone, police informed.
“Since there are no allegations against anyone we have not registered any case. The missing case registered in her name will also be closed,” said Suraj Gawas, Anjuna PI.
According to police, she was flown to Mumbai on Saturday evening from where she will be flown to her hometown in the US.
Meanwhile, the Mann family on the special Facebook page to locate her informed that Elizabeth Mann has been found and was safe.
“Elizabeth Mann has been found and is safe. At this time we ask that you respect the family’s privacy as they work to bring Elizabeth home,” the Mann family posted on the Facebook page.
Mann was supposed to participate in a yoga retreat in India and was travelling alone.
