Stung by the Supreme Court verdict, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said mistakes which have occurred at the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) level will be rectified in accordance with Supreme Court order on municipal polls.
Sawant took to Twitter to break his silence on the development. “We respect the decision of the #SupremeCourt and whatever the instructions, will be followed and the #election process will go ahead accordingly. Mistakes done by DMA and UDA level are being rectified,” reads the tweet posted from CM’s official Twitter handle.
Six municipalities will go for elections on March 20 as scheduled earlier, for the remaining 5 as per the instructions of the court the next date will be announced, he said.
Sawant was expecting a decision in his government’s favour as the apex court had stayed the High Court verdict setting aside the notification on reservation of wards in five municipal councils.
Sawant, it may be recalled had tweeted, “Hon. Supreme Court has stayed the High Court’s order cancelling elections to five municipalities and consequent order of the State Election Commission keeping the election process in abeyance. Matter to come up for final hearing on Tuesday. Now, the democratic process has been restored!”
