CM Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that MLAs demand several projects in their constituencies but when locals protest against the same projects these MLAs withdraw in favour of the locals putting the government in a very inconvenient position.
“The MLAs should ensure that the locals will not oppose the projects. The MLAs should stand with the government and should not back out later,” Sawant said.
The CM was reacting to the demand of Mayem MLA Premendra Shet to construct an international cricket stadium on land bought over by Goa Cricket Association (GCA) at Maulinghe, Mayem.
Shet informed the House that the land was best suitable for the cricket stadium as it was a flat area and it will also economically benefit the three talukas of Bicholim, Bardez and Pernem.
He also said that a bypass road has been proposed in the Regional Plan to take care of traffic movement.
Sports Minister, Govind Gaude informed that Goa needs an international cricket stadium but so far no decision has been taken to build a cricket stadium in the State.
“We have to undertake a feasibility report and after taking all stakeholders into confidence, we can propose to build such a stadium,” he said.
