Margao Municipal councillor Deepali Sawal on Saturday asserted that no attempt has been made to encroach into the fields at Sirvodem as claimed by a group of farmers.
The MMC councillor along with the residents of the area told the media that neither has she and her husband nor are the civic body in any way involved in the illegal filling of the fields of the farmers. “We had only proposed beautification of the existing road by putting some benches along the stretch, wherever possible. No one is involved in any illegal land filling of the fields for recreation purpose as claimed by the farmers,” she said.
Deepal, however, pointed out that youth from the locality have been playing in the area for years now. Deepali’s husband, Digambar Sawal, who was accused by the farmers for having intimidated them, said the allegations made by the farmers are baseless.
