MMC emergency cell swings into action after wall collapse

MARGAO

Setting up of an Emergency Seva Cell by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) just a day ago to attend to emergencies during monsoons came in handy to clear debris following a wall collapse in Gogol on Wednesday morning.

As soon as the retailing wall collapsed at the residential complex at Gogol near Corporation Bank, the emergency cell rushed to the site to clear the debris and restore the internal road for traffic.

MMC Chairperson Damu Shirodkar informed that no sooner the Emergency Seva received a message, workers rushed to the site with the equipment to clear the debris within minutes.

A brainchild of the MMC Chairperson, the emergency cell consists of a vehicle, manned by 12 labourers and two supervisors and will be equipped with tree-cutting machines, crowbars, pickaxes etc.

The MMC Chairperson informed that the workers will man the cell round the clock and work in shifts. While one group will work from 6 am to 2 pm, the second group will be on duty from 2 pm to 10 pm every day during the monsoons.
