MMC, health dept caught napping on stagnant water

Authorities, including the Margao Municipal Council and the health department, have been caught napping on water stagnation at the Old Market and behind the KTC bus stand, even as these locations smell bad and have turned into mosquito-breeding sites.

MARGAO

Water is seen accumulated at the Old Market triangle for want of any drainage facility. This site has been acquired by Margao Municipal Council for displaced gadda traders. Citizens of the locality as well as those passing on the Old Market-Colva road have complained of foul odour, but the authorities are yet to respond and create an outlet for the stagnant water to drain. “The authorities had been only reassuring citizens they are all bracing up to tackle vector-borne diseases in the city, but the water logging shows there is no seriousness,” remarked a citizen from the Old Market.Behind the KTC bus stand, the water from the open fields is overflowing into an adjoining storm water drain. Neither the Collectorate officials nor the health or MMC has stepped in to find the reasons for the water-logging.However, the migrants are happy as the water-logging has come as a blessing in disguise for the purpose of bathing and washing utensils.
