MMC initiates cleanliness drive under Swaach Bharat
The Margao Municipal Council on Thursday undertook cleanliness drive in the Gandhi market vegetable market as part of Swaach Bharat Abhiyan.
Carried out under the guidelines of the Abhiyan to clean up the vegetable mandis in the states, MMC workers descended in the congested market and with the cooperation of the vendors and traders cleaned up the market area.
MMC Engineer Deepak Desai told the media that the exercise was carried out as per the general instructions of the Swaach Bharat Abhiyan to take up the cleanliness drive in the vegetable mandis. “We deployed 30 workers and two trucks for the mission. It was quite successful and the drive will be taken up periodically”, he said.
Leader of the Gandhi market Vendors Association Rajendra Azgaonkar complimented the Margao Municipality for the exercise, while making an appeal to the traders and vendors to support the drive to keep the market clean and hygienic. “If the vendors maintain Civic sense, the market can be maintained clean, which would attract more customers”, he said.
