MMC market panel not to allow transfer of shops if there is no blood relation

MARGAO

In a major decision, the Margao Municipal market committee headed by MMC Vice-Chairperson Deepali Sawal have resolved not to allow the transfer of municipal shops or sopo if there’s no blood relation between the two parties.

The market committee meeting has also decided to carry out an anti-encroachment drive in the municipal markets after the committee members detected a host of encroachments in the Gandhi market and the new market.

Sources in the know pointed out that the market committee has rejected the permission sought by one party to transfer the shop in the name of another party. Sources told The Goan that the market committee is believed to have warded pressure from certain quarters to grant the permission on the ground that similar permissions were given in the past by the civic body.

MMC Margao market committee chairperson Deepali Sawal and the members, however, have stuck to their guns, pointing out there’s no provision in the Municipalities Act to transfer shops or sopo in the name of another party if there’s no blood relation between the two parties.
