VASCO
Vasco councillor Lavina D’Souza on Monday hit out at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), accusing the council of lack of enthusiasm for the upcoming centenary celebrations.
Speaking at the council meeting on Monday, D’Souza said though it was a proud moment that MMC would complete 100 years, the topic was not taken up in the main agenda. D’Souza also said that though the tourism department had assured to sponsor Rs 25 crore for the occasion, the MMC had not begun anything nor had taken any step in this regard.
“This centenary function is a big celebration and must be held on a grand scale. We are already delayed and there are just three months remaining as the celebrations are to be held in January.”
“With Rs 25 crore allotted for this function by the tourism department alone, so much of unimaginable development can be taken. No movement is done or are steps taken and I have requested the chief officer to get this on the main agenda,” said D’Souza.
Claiming that this is a moment of pride for entire Vasco, D’Souza suggested that works be taken up in every ward and all councillors celebrate this occasion.
