MARGAO
With vendors and hawkers openly defying the writ of the Margao Municipal market along the Margao wholesale fish market road, MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira with ward councillor Francis Jones and officials descended on the road to supervise action against the illegal activity.
Both the municipal market inspectors, Santu and Shekar, along with civic workers went about confiscating the fish and fruits being sold all along the road.
Chairperson Pereira issued stern instructions to the municipal inspectors not to show mercy or leniency to the illegal vendors and hawkers, saying the business activity is obstructing the smooth flow of traffic on the road.
At the end of the drive, the stale and rotten fish confiscated by the municipal inspectors was disposed of at Sonsodo while the fruits seized from rickshaws were handed to the orphanage, Ashram, Matruchhaya.
The Chairperson told the media that he has requested the traffic police to also crack a whip against vehicles doing business on the wholesale fish market road.
“The wholesale fish market road is now congested with all heavy traffic coming into the city via the road after the part-commissioning of the western bypass,” Pereira said.
