That the municipal administration has been going slow on the question of reviving the CCTV surveillance system is evident by the fact that though the issue had figured at a council meeting a couple of months ago, it has not come back at the council meeting in recent times.
If Tawde is to be believed, he had reminded the council on the need to revive the CCTV cameras a couple of months ago, but the council told him to defer the matter to a future date for discussion and decision. Tawde could not explain why he has till date not reminded the council on the question of CCTV cameras when so many meetings have taken place since the previous meeting.
Replying to a question, Tawde pointed out that not all cameras have become defunct, but hastened to add that the system has collapsed for want of regular maintenance of the cameras. “This issue had come up when I was the District Additional Collector. Since the CCTV cameras were procured under the MLPAD scheme, it the responsibility of the local body to look after their maintenance,” Tawde said, but hastened to add that the civic body has not taken a call yet on the upkeep and maintenance of  cameras.
