Concerned about the recent fire mishap in Vasco market, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) will send a reminder to the PWD and fire department in Vasco regarding the restoration of fire hydrants in the market.
MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes on Thursday informed that he had inspected the fire hydrants in Vasco market last year.
“Later, a joint inspection of fire hydrants in the crowded market was held with the PWD and fire department. Till date, the fire hydrants are not fully capable of handling a major fire incident,” remarked Fernandes. “Last year, I had conducted an inspection and directions were given to PWD department to have an overhead tank for water supply to fire hydrants in the market.”
“The fire department also was part of the joint inspection and some direction was given, but till date the directions have not been complied with and I will issue them a reminder soon.”
“There was a recent fire incident and timely intervention to douse the fire prevented it from spreading to the entire market, thereby averting a major tragedy.”
“We have to be prepared for such incidents and I request the fire department and PWD to do the needful, so that the fire hydrants are in order,” said Fernandes.
